Romaine lettuce: why it's hard to keep it safe from E. coli and other bacteria

Lettuce is more vulnerable than many other foods to bacteria outbreaks because it has no protective rind like an avocado, today our food travels long distances and it is hard to investigate food borne illnesses because of how quickly food is picked and consumed and how fast packaging is thrown away
